And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” -Matthew 16:18
How do we live strong and grow healthy as Jesus’ Church?
On one hand the Church is both universal and global, and on the other it’s entirely local and personal.
God paints a few pictures explaining who we are in him and how we live together as the Church.
He calls us citizens in the kingdom of heaven, siblings in the family of God, and members in a local body.
Join us this week for week one of our series: Member.Sibling.Citizen.Saints as we learn how to live as saints in Christ with form, fit, and function.

15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ. Romans 8:15-17

This past July, I got a text from my lawyer saying "it's done". For us, it meant that at last William was officially a Morrell, though in our hearts he already was. For William, in that moment, everything changed. The same is true for us. Formerly we were of the world, and slaves to the worlds way of doing things. Now, in Christ we are adopted into God's family and all that he has is ours. Join us this Sunday as we look at what it means to be adopted by God, and how we are called to live as brothers and sisters in His family.

For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:4-5

How is being a member of Costco different from being a member of Rockbridge Church? Pretty much the same? Vastly different? What do you think? This Sunday in our short series on Citizen-Sibling-Member we’ll look at the big idea of what it means to be a member of Christ’s body, the church; and we’ll answer some basic questions:

  • What is a "member"?

  • How is being a member different than a citizen or a sibling?

  • Does RbC have a membership?

  • What makes me a member? What do I have to do?

  • A member of what?
